To
travel to Luxemburg that day was just to see the country how it was like. And
perhaps to take a walk around to see places and people.Just because Luxembourg
is not far form where I live and two friends coming from Amsterdam to join the
trip.So we agreed to go for a ride !

From Heerlen,we made first stop at the antique market in Maastricht. It was annoying
when it started to rain while we were leaving the market making our way to
Luxembourg. I didn’t expect the rain to loiter the whole day long like that.Always
think positive and favor myself,I thought the rain would stop once we entered
Luxembourg ,but it was not.And that we would spend time promenading here and
there, making lovely pictures as we always do when traveling, but we didn’t. The
rain bothered our trip a great deal, however the comrades and I were making the best
of our day.We had much to tell one another along the way,we laughed and had
fun, I shall say we had reasonable a good time, being together.
Thanks
goodness,I always have umbrella in my car,and we could use it during the pour
when we got out of the car in town. But the chill that kept me shake most of the time,I could
hardly handle it.One thing I was thinking of during the stroll was that I should
have worn thicker cloths to keep me a lot warmer.
It
took us about two hours to drive to Luxembourg (173Km from Heerlen). While driving
into town on the castle bridge, what they call Bock Promontory which linked the
city, we were fastinated by the picturesque view in the valley along both sides and would love to stop for some pictures. We couldn’t just park over there ,even for a quick shoot, the traffic flew all the time. And
so we drove a little further to find a parking lot. Not far from there,on the
left-hand side,we saw a place where I found out later it was called
“Constitution Square”,the source of my knowledge today.
Constitution Square in Luxembourg City |
The
intention at the first place was just to park the car. I saw many tourists
standing surrounding their tourguide in front of that tall obelisk with a
kind of angel on top,at the place. This could be an important something,I thought to myself
and so I walked nearby the group, after parked to take a picture or two and to
read something that wrote on the base sides. And so I heard...
“This is monument of Remembrance built to delicate to thousand of Luxembourgers who volunteered for service in armed force of allied powers during the first World War”
“In front of this 21 metre-tall granite obelisk are two bronze figures representing those Luxembourg soliers who served for France.”
“The one who lies at the base of statue died in service of the country, whilst the other sits mourning his dead compatriot.”
And on top of the obelisk,it’s a gilded bronze statue holding out a laurel wreat as if to place it upon the head of the nation. It's "Gëlle Fra” or "Golden Lady"
I probably didn’t know much about this. I thanked the tourguide secertly
in mind. For at least,I didn’t know what it was,but now I do. Again,as it always
is to me,...as far as talking and listening can broaden your knowledge, traveling can
also open your eyes. And I must tell you, there’re much more interesting to see
overthere. For sure,I will be back again to find out more.
Till next time,
Pari
